Premier Osteopathic Doctor in Fort Lauderdale
The philosophy of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) and doctors of osteopathy is that all the body’s systems work together. This includes, of course, the musculoskeletal system (which both influences and is influenced by your emotional and mental state) as well as the organic systems within your body.
Disturbances in one system can negatively impact other systems. Because of this interrelationship between systems of the body and of the mind, at the Institute for Non-Surgical Orthopedics we feel it is vital to take into account your entire history and become a partner with you in creating an effective treatment customized to you and your needs.
A holistic approach to your health looks at more than just your symptoms or diseased or injured parts. You are not just an aching back, migraine headache, or numb leg. Our osteopathic doctor in Fort Lauderdale will investigate to learn how your other body systems and your mental state are impacting your physical experience and then try to expose the underlying causes of discomfort and unbalance within the body. Then you and the doctor will create an individualized treatment plan to address those concerns and help you find relief.
What to Expect from Our Fort Lauderdale Sports Medicine Clinic
We begin diagnosis with a structural exam in which we assess your posture, spine, and balance. This is an extremely hands-on procedure where we use our fingers to intricately palpate your back and extremities, asking you to identify any pain, tenderness, or discomfort you may feel.
We then integrate the knowledge we gain through this examination with your medical history and a complete physical examination (including any necessary tests to rule out nonmechanical causes for your pain and discomfort) to create a treatment plan specifically adapted to your needs. This treatment plan will use a variety of Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) modalities to apply gentle manual force in treating structural abnormalities and specific corrective forces to relieve joint restriction and misalignment. Medication can be included in your treatment if needed.
Often patients find relief after just one session, but it depends on the severity and complexity of your specific situation. You may need additional treatment sessions.
